introducing project unlabeled

last fall the vision began to form that would fuse photography, videography and the spoken word to uplift the young black girl. it is called, "project unlabeled : i define me."
project unlabeled : i define me was created to empower, affirm and encourage the little black girl from birth to 18 by bringing together the powers of photography and the spoken word. It serves as a notice and as a reminder that you can do and be whatever it is that you choose to be and that society and others cannot dictate that to you, label you or confine you; you are only limited by you.
over the course of the next few weeks we will continue to share video and images of those that have participated in the project unlabeled project. then, on saturday, september 12th we'd like to invite everyone out to dc on film row located at 609 w. sheridian from 12 noon to 3pm where we will be screening the official project unlabeled video. this video, put together by derrico thomas, will include images and videos of each of the 92 girls that were photographed along with the never before heard poem of telesa hines written specifically for project unlabeled entitled "shades of sun."
please join us over on our Facebook page where the videos and images are first released!!
