project unlabeled : i define me was created to empower, affirm and encourage the little black girl from birth to 18 by bringing together the powers of photography and the spoken word. It serves as a notice and as a reminder that you can do and be whatever it is that you choose to be and that society and others cannot dictate that to you, label you or confine you; you are only limited by you.

over the course of the next few weeks we will continue to share video and images of those that have participated in the project unlabeled project. then, on saturday, september 12th we'd like to invite everyone out to dc on film row located at 609 w. sheridian from 12 noon to 3pm where we will be screening the official project unlabeled video. this video, put together by derrico thomas, will include images and videos of each of the 92 girls that were photographed along with the never before heard poem of telesa hines written specifically for project unlabeled entitled "shades of sun."

heeeeyyyyy!!

i feel like its been SO LONG since i visited! many things  have happened since my last post. some life changing. earlier this year i lost ALL of the images that had been posted on my blog over the past 8 or so years. my lip is still poked out a bit. I've decided to not delete the blog posts and hopefully over the next few months i'll manually add back in some of the images to some of the product posts. so, here we are starting (semi) fresh with this fresh face. i may see some black and white mini sessions coming up soon - all inspired by this little session!

the goodfellows : a family affair : withunmind photography

it was so serendipitous that i ran in to that family. they have introduced me to the wonderful world of essential oils. its really been life changing. it was so my pleasure to be able to photograph them. if i haven't said it before, photography and storytelling and creating, those are my drugs of choice. it gives me a high. it feeds my SOUL! i love that i have the ability to reflect back to my clients the beauty that is them! i left this session on cloud 9 and it still puts a little pep in my step every time i get to look at these images.

its not often that i get to shoot my own younguns. this one right here though - i was SO READY to do!! my first borns first prom!! she did her mama proud. not once did she complain about the 42, 681 pictures that i took. i'm really considering putting together a little book with the images - cant wait to share!
