meet a few of the girls that are a part of the project unlabeled campaign!!

project unlabeled : i define me was created to empower, affirm and encourage the little black girl from birth to 18 by bringing together the powers of photography and the spoken word. It serves as a notice and as a reminder that you can do and be whatever it is that you choose to be and that society and others cannot dictate that to you, label you or confine you; you are only limited by you.

over the course of the next few weeks we will continue to share video and images of those that have participated in the project unlabeled project. then, on saturday, september 12th we'd like to invite everyone out to dc on film row located at 609 w. sheridian from 12 noon to 3pm where we will be screening the official project unlabeled video. this video, put together by derrico thomas, will include images and videos of each of the 92 girls that were photographed along with the never before heard poem of telesa hines written specifically for project unlabeled entitled "shades of sun."

miss brooklyn is a whole 9 months!!

my very first session with a newborn brooklyn!!!!

there's a "story" to this storyboard above!  let me give you a play by play. we were sitting in a little tunnel at a playground when a little girl about 4 or so came out of nowhere and climbed past brooklyn in the tunnel nearly kicking her in the head. since i'm a baby mind reader i can tell you what brooklyn was thinking. 1. did she just climb right past me, not say excuse me AND kick me?? 2. mama, tell me she didn't!! 3. ahhh naw! mama hold me back!! 4. let this girl come back. lol!

can't wait to see brooklyn again in a few months! she'll probably be walking by then! i'm gonna get some exercise in so that i'll be ready for her!!

oh this age is so fun! and sweet! and cute!! i got to shoot all of this baby goodness ON her birthday!! i couldnt narrow down the sneak peek to just 2 or 3 images. or even 5 or 6. SO, you get to see just a mere 12 of my favorite images of miss analise on her birthday. enjoy this baby goodness!!

i love babies. ESPECIALLY newborns. i could shoot them all day long. i love the freshness. i love the innocence. i love to sniff them - its no secret. i love the connections between them and the rest of their families. i just love babies!! two years ago i got to photograph thomas' older brother charlie and now i'm blessed with the chance to see thomas' change this beautiful family!!
